The Difference Between Niche Marketing and Mass Marketing

By | January 26, 2019

When you first begin building your website there are going to be a couple terms that are a little unfamiliar.

  • Niche
  • Domain
  • Hosting
  • SEO
  • Traffic
  • Blog

You will certainly want to familiarize yourself with these terms before getting into any kind of program.

Take advantage of the free information where you can get it.

Niche Marketing Vs. Mass Marketing

The difference between Niche Marketing and Mass Marketing is pretty simple. Your 1st step when getting into the internet marketing business will be to pick the direction you are most interested in.

Known as picking your Niche market… and you think to yourself “ I’m most interested in computers”…

Well, that’s good if your a big IT firm with the resources to Mass Market everything having to do with computers, such as Computer Services, Computer Accessories, Desktop Computers, Laptop Computers… the list goes on and on. And when your Mass Marketing you want a piece of it all.

But if your a little guy like me. It’s easiest to corner a more specific piece of that market.

Let’s try to do that…

We’ll take Computer Accessories which is still a big niche to handle so let’s target a computer mouse.

It’s going to be so much easier finding everything you can about a computer mouse and building a website that can offer the public the best information all about computer mice.

Domain Name

After you’ve decided what niche market you want to target. Second is picking your domain name. Which is pretty important because it’s your business’s brand!

Ideally picking something relevant to your respective niche will fit best but it can be whatever you want because…What’s a Google??… I’m kidding it’s some number bigger than a billion.

None the less it really doesn’t matter but it can help when it comes to SEO.

SEO

SEO Process bubble

I’ve put SEO in front of hosting because it can be of some use when picking your domain name and Niche. SEO or Search Engine Optimization is what Google is mostly all about.

When you type something a word or phrase into Google’s search bar… Like you probably did before you got here….Then Google finds the most relevant information based on what you’ve typed in.

There’s an algorithm for this. It’s quite extensive with over 200 factors taken into account. Bing and Yahoo have their own similar algorithms.

Understanding the factors can help the SEO of your website but it’s NOT something you should put too much focus on. Producing quality content for your readers is much more important.

Traffic is Good

Traffic is probably the most important part of the whole internet marketing world. Without it, there would be no internet marketing.

Every person on the internet is traffic. Which stands to reason the more traffic you get on your site the better chance you have at making money!

The better you drive traffic the more likely you will make conversions

Hosting

Hosting is required for you to have a website. Basically, you pay a web hosting service x amount per month to store all your websites information. There are a few companies that do this like Blue Host, Wealthy Affiliate, and Godaddy they can range in different prices depending on how safely they monitor your information.

Blog

blog blurb

A blog is a website that someone builds to help others learn more about their peculiar interest. Kind of like getting information from the inside. They are usually written just like you are talking to a friend. Lots of bloggers make money by placing ads on their site like this one .

I started my own niche site a few months back and realized it was too large of a niche, so in the past few weeks I decided to down niche the site some and have since seen a decent increase in traffic and returning users as well. Anyone starting off would want to have a niche rather than mass market and over time, perhaps they can expand to a mass as they make a name for themselves.

Definitely! Unless you have lots of money already, niche marketing is the way to go. It’s going to take a lot of resources to Mass market any product and if you are starting out then having those resources is unlikely.

      Thanks Todd for your interest!
